What Is Clash Meta? How It Differs from the Original Clash
Clash Meta is an enhanced fork of the original Clash core, now renamed mihomo and actively maintained by the MetaCubeX team. After the original Clash was discontinued and deleted in 2023, Clash Meta became the de facto continuation of the whole ecosystem.
Key differences from the original Clash
Clash Meta stays fully compatible with the original configuration format while adding the protocols and features the original never got — which is why providers universally recommend it today.
- Supports modern protocols the original lacks: VLESS, Hysteria2, TUIC
- A stronger rule engine with GeoSite-based routing data
- TUN mode that captures all system traffic
- Actively maintained, so security fixes actually ship
What should you download now
Regular users never need the bare core. Install a GUI client instead: Clash Verge Rev on desktop, FlClash or Clash Meta for Android on Android — all of them bundle the mihomo core.
Why the name changed to mihomo
To avoid disputes with the deleted upstream project, the Clash.Meta core was renamed mihomo in late 2023. The community still says “Clash Meta” for the ecosystem — mihomo and Clash.Meta refer to the same project.
