What Is TUN Mode? How to Enable It and When You Need It
System proxy on, yet some app still bypasses it? The system proxy is only a suggestion — apps are free to ignore it. TUN mode instead creates a virtual network adapter that captures traffic at the network layer. Nothing gets around it.
When you need TUN
- Command-line tools and game clients that never read the system proxy
- UWP apps and software that hard-codes direct connections
- Anyone who wants install-once, everything-just-works behavior
How to enable it
Clash Verge Rev: toggle TUN Mode in Settings; Windows asks to install a service with admin rights on first use, macOS asks you to approve a network extension. FlClash on Android already works as a VPN (which is TUN) — nothing to configure.
Caveats
TUN competes with other VPN software for the adapter — run only one at a time. DNS is taken over by the core; if resolution misbehaves, enable fake-ip or change the upstream DNS in settings.
