mihomo on OpenWrt: Whole-Home Transparent Proxy
Run mihomo on the router and every device in the house — TVs, consoles, IoT — gets smart routing with zero per-device setup. This is the endgame for enthusiasts.
The approach
mihomo runs on OpenWrt as a transparent proxy, intercepting LAN traffic and routing by rules. Doing it by hand is fiddly; the community plugin Nikki (formerly MihomoTProxy) wraps install, subscription and updates in a web UI.
Basic steps
- Add the Nikki feed to OpenWrt and install the plugin
- Paste your subscription in the plugin UI and pick TProxy or TUN mode
- Enable the service and select which devices or subnets are captured
- Choose nodes in the policy group — the whole house follows
Notes
- Router CPU caps your speed: x86 boxes and strong ARM devices fare best
- Update the core and Geo data from the plugin periodically
- Keep one device off the proxy while testing, so a bad rule cannot cut the whole family off
